Cake and Ale

Cake and Ale is a Prague/Northern Bohemia-based trio who named themselves after an old drinking song that was composed by Henry Purcell and covered by English folk duo Silly Sisters. Alright, the song is properly spelled "Cakes and Ale", but that name was already taken, so they had to improvize. The fact that the band name mimics the sound of the first letters of their names ("Kay Kay El") has unfortunately gone unnoticed by the general public.

This all-female trio consists of good friends— Kačka (Cathy), Kristýna (Christy), and Loes (Lucy) —who have a soft spot for three-part vocal harmonies, cakes, and ale. Alright, they actually prefer lager...

In addition to Purcell's Renaissance banger, most of their repertoire consists of pop and folk hits and a few obscure treasures by the likes of Queen, Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, Kate Wolf, Steeleye Span, and John Denver. Kačka, Kristýna, and Loes accompany themselves on acoustic guitars, bass guitar, and various percussion instruments.
